Data Centre Industry Update – 16th March 2022
Globally, we are seeing a huge increase in the level of data centre activity. This surge is largely brought about by remote working and other measures as a result of COVID-19. This is a turning point for work-management structures and the industry as a whole.
This seismic growth in online activity has created jobs in tech, engineering, construction, and more as a result. In our previous update, we discussed how EdgeConneX has been granted permission for a further two data facilities in Dublin, Data Centre operators across Ireland, The UK, and Nordic regions are ready to upgrade to UPS batteries to combat energy management issues, and Irish data equipment manufacturer Edpac has been acquired by Munters in a €29 million deal.
Here are this edition’s updates:
- Nautilus Data Technologies is set to start building their €35 million floating data centre in Limerick after receiving initial approval over two years ago.
- EngineNode’s new 24.5-hectare data facility space in Meath has been brought before the High Court after claims that unauthorised works were carried out on the site.
- Irish politician Denis Naughten has stated that families are seeing their average electricity prices rise due to the subsiding cost of supplying power to data centres.
- Principal Global Investors has announced a €155 million data centre fund aimed at acquiring data assets across Europe.
