Data Centre Industry Update – 23rd June 2021
Globally, we are seeing a surge in data centre activity. This surge is largely brought about by remote working as a result of COVID-19. This is a turning point for work-management structures and the industry as a whole.
This seismic growth in online activity has created jobs in tech, engineering, construction, and more as a result. Our previous update discussed Cyrus One’s electricity commitments, Hyperco’s new Finnish facility and more.

Data Centre Industry Update – 23rd June 2021
- Amazon has received conditional planning permission to build a new €450 million centre located in Drogheda.
- Ireland has been warned about potential ‘rolling blackouts’ if data centre demand is not addressed, which are having major impacts on the Irish electricity system.
- 50 Irish data centre organisations have pledged for more than 1000 new orchards to be planted under the ‘Orchards in the Community’ plan.
- ClusterPower set to build one of the largest data centres across Europe in Romania, following initial investment.
- KKR and Global Technical Realty have reached an agreement to develop a data facility campus in Slough, UK. It is expected the new project will create 200 jobs during construction, plus a further 80 permanent roles on completion.
