Data Centre Industry Update – 4th August 2021
Globally, we are seeing a huge increase in the level of data centre activity. This surge is largely brought about by remote working as a result of COVID-19. This is a turning point for work-management structures and the industry as a whole.
This seismic growth in online activity has created jobs in tech, engineering, construction, and more as a result. Our previous update discussed the global tech giant TikTok moving into its new Clondalkin facility, An Bórd Pleanala giving permission to EngineNode to proceed with a new project in Co. Meath, the need for extra electricity to prevent rolling blackouts, and more.
Here are this edition’s updates:
- Art Data Centre’s plan in Co. Clare has tripled in size to €1.2 billion and has become a key pillar for Clare County Council’s 2040 economic plan.
- Irish Water is under increasing amounts of pressure to take a tougher stance with large quantities of water needed by data facilities as households try to preserve supplies.
- Data Centre start-up company, Bamboo, claims to be up to 74% more efficient than competitors Dell’s PowerEdge server’s.
- The availability of power tops the list as the most important factor in the decision-making process for a new data facility for European developers.
- Amsterdam based global data centre company, Yondr Group are set to operate and develop data facilities in India.
