Meet the Recruitment Expert: Annmarie Heffernan 2020

As part of our monthly activities, we would like to offer you the chance to meet a recruitment expert from our valued team. This month we would like to introduce you to Annmarie Heffernan, a dedicated member of our team.

ANNMARIE HEFFERNAN, RECRUITMENT EXPERT

I began working with Euro Executive in June of this year. I had just moved home to Ireland after 3 years abroad in Canada and New Zealand, where I worked in IT and construction recruitment respectively. I was keen to join an organisation that is committed to professional growth and rewarded hard work. I was lucky to find that with Euro Executive.

My favourite part about working with Euro Executive is the culture that we have in the office. Over the years, I’ve learned that the environment in which you work is very important. We all work hard but we also have a craic along the way. There’s no I in team, I very much believe in working together to reach a common goal and I bring this attitude to my work.

Before I joined Euro Executive, while in Canada, I was working for the largest IT staffing agency in North America, this is where my recruitment career started. I then moved to New Zealand where I was working for a construction recruitment experts agency.

Development is really important at Euro Executive, every month we do a review on what went well that month and what could be improved – I find this very helpful in terms of progression.

The most enjoyable part of the role for me is seeing candidates you place happy in their new position. Starting a new job is life-changing in a lot of ways and I really enjoy being able to help others in the way.

My current role is as a Recruitment Consultant, I work primarily on Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager positions.

Passions

One of the best things to come out of 2020 for me has been a passion for running. Obviously, great for my physical fitness, but I also find it has a huge impact on my mood and general wellbeing.

Skills/Education

I attended University College Cork where I studied Commerce for 4 years, graduating in 2015.

Ambition

I hope to progress professionally over the next number of years into a more senior role within Euro Executive.

Have you found it more difficult transitioning to a new role during the pandemic?
There was certainly been some new challenges that I have faced. My interviews were held online so I had not been into the office or met any of the team until my first day on the job, a year ago I could never have imagined starting a new role without meeting my manager in person. Also, in terms of recruitment itself, the pandemic has a huge impact in terms of meeting candidates and clients face to face so this has certainly been a difficulty.

Did you find yourself immersed in company culture?
We have a very positive culture at Euro Executive, we work hard, we all want to succeed and we have craic along the way, I was fully immersed in this from the day I joined.

Were people there to offer you a helping hand during the transition?
Everyone on the team is supportive and made it very easy for me to settle in.

Did you find the workflow to be productive throughout the pandemic?
I have found it very important to maintain a high level of output and to track this to ensure I am being productive throughout the pandemic.

Do you think the company followed the pandemic protocol correctly?
Absolutely, we have followed every restriction and have made a very conscious effort to keep everyone safe.

How have you been finding working from home?
I personally prefer to primarily work in the office so this long of a period of working from home has been somewhat difficult. I have found it beneficial to myself in the morning to ‘what do I need to do today to be successful and I try to achieve whatever that may be.

Have you got to know your co-workers?
The pandemic has made this somewhat difficult in terms of getting to spend time with my co-workers but during lockdown, we have had phone calls to catch up and during the summer, I had socially distanced lunches with them
