Interview Tips: land that new year job

When your well written and presented CV and cover letter get you that interview, there are of course some basic job interview tips that will get you noticed above the competition, but what is it that employers are really looking for these days?

Our director of group operations, Denis Casey was recently interviewed by the Irish Examiner. During the interview he shared some of the most important job interview tips gained as a result of his 20 years working with some of Ireland and Europe’s largest employers.

Employment Longevity and Commitment

Experience and qualifications will always remain high on the wish list for employers, but what will really set you apart is a track record of longevity. Taking on a new member of staff can be a surprisingly large financial and resource investment for a company. HR managers now look for talent that shows a willingness to stick with a company and grow their career with them. A resumé showing long tenures with past employers demonstrate commitment and loyalty. In return, employers, especially in high-tech, pharma and engineering sectors are now offering enhanced promotion prospects to the right people.

According to an article in the highly influential Forbes magazine: “Focusing on building a sustainable workforce is a must if a company aims to connect and produce results authentically and successfully.” Positioning yourself as a candidate with demonstrable commitment will immediately put you ahead of those with a CV like a rock band’s tour schedule!
